Inspiration
There is growing demand for virtual and augmented reality experiences, the rise of online commerce, and the increasing popularity of metaverse concepts. Hence we wanted to create a unique and engaging shopping experience and provide a platform for virtual events and hackathons.
What it does
It basically gives the user an immersive metaverse experience. In our virtual mall, the user can look for products from top brands and interact with other users. There is a client server where there is a host and upto 20 users can be added to that server. At our virtual hackathon auditorium, developers can come together to collaborate, showcase their skills, and build innovative solutions.
How we built it
We first planned how the layout of the virtual mall and hackathon area will be. Then we created the virtual environment on Unity 3d with the help of 3d models available on the internet. We added basic interactivity where user can try on various products on mannequins in the stores. We used photon which is a cloud platform based on client server architecture to facilitate the interaction between one host and multiple other users.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, locating a cloud server was a difficult task, however, we eventually utilized Photon. Despite some issues with the scripting aspect, everything eventually worked out in the end.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successfully created the virtual environment for interaction between different users. We were able to create a simple yet effective mechanism for multi-user interaction which is backed up by Photon Engine.
What we learned
We gained knowledge about various new aspects of Unity and the use of Photon. Additionally, we have gained a thorough understanding of the importance of the Metaverse in our project.
What's next for Metamall X Hackzone
We are eager to integrate a powerful and reliable cloud server in order to enhance the interactivity among players. Furthermore, we aim to enhance the environment and include voice connectivity among players, as well as host engaging events within the platform.
