Inspiration
One of our teammates studied film and television in university. She noticed that film planning involved a lot of logistics. Sometimes there were schedule conflicts. Sometimes the location was not available. Thus, shot planning was often the first thing to go when directors and producers were faced with a tight schedule. This often leads to film shoots with long days, cost overruns or delays in production.
What it does
It allows the director, cinematographer and other key individuals in pre-production the ability to plan shots and block sets (i.e. decide how the set will be setup) with the use of mixed reality. The director can design the set according to specifications and place actors, cameras and props within it. This would allow them to judge whether or not specific shots are possible.
Actors can also benefit from the app as it allows them a way to see how the set will be setup before they perform and how the director expects a certain shot to flow. Thus, this would negate the need for everyone to physically gather in order to conduct rehearsals. Also, it would give the actors the ability to act against each other and practice a scene from the comfort of their home/current location.
How we built it
We developed the app in Unity and we used Meta Presence Platform SDKs and Photon.
Challenges we ran into
*It was very difficult to incorporate Logitech pen in the app. *We also found it difficult to use SDKs that are recently updated and there is not enough documentation. *The Meta OS version we used in the app was unreleased which made it difficult to program and prototype with since it was not compatible with some of Meta Presence SDK's capabilities.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
*We are proud of our unique idea to help film industry to save time and cost in planning for film shooting.
*Found hands-on tools to develop our idea very fast at an intensive development pace.
*Exchanged great ideas with XR fellows.
*Our collective creativity has allowed us to overcome challenges both expected and unexpected.
What we learned
In this hackathon we learned that documentation is paramount.
