MetabolX – Harnessing Metabolite Analysis for Personalized & Predictive Healthcare

In the current healthcare landscape, doctors often rely on trial-and-error methods when prescribing treatments, leading to prolonged therapy and potentially inaccurate medication plans. Additionally, many serious diseases like Alzheimer’s and certain cancers remain hidden until symptoms escalate, and their exact causes are not always understood. We identified a massive gap: the underutilization of metabolite analysis as a predictive and preventive tool. By examining metabolic by-products and factoring in environmental conditions, we envisioned a platform that could highlight potential diseases well before they manifest, thus embodying the principle that prevention is indeed better than cure.
What MetabolX Does
MetabolX is a cloud-enabled web application that delivers real-time, AI-driven metabolite analysis with an impressive 97.2% tested accuracy. Trained on 20K+ datasets and capable of analyzing 49 key metabolites, it empowers both patients and doctors by:
Precision Diagnosis & Personalized Medication
- Identifies critical metabolite markers and highlights potential disease risks.
- Recommends 10 personalized medication options, ranked from best to worst, each with an effectiveness score out of 100.
- Explains which metabolites each medication targets and details possible side effects, organ efficacy, and macronutrient interactions.

How We Built It
Our tech stack focuses on reliability, speed, and scalability. We combined Flask (with flask-login and flask-restful) for backend RESTful APIs, Python for AI and data handling, and HTML5/CSS3/JavaScript for a clean, responsive frontend UI. We leveraged:

scikit-learn,tensorflow, andrandom-forestmodels to process metabolic data and predict health outcomes. - Data Management:
pandas,numpy, andsqlitefor dataset handling and secure storage. - OpenAI & GPT: For natural language processing in our AI Assistant, offering context-aware, human-like interactions.

- Docker & Gunicorn: Ensuring scalable, containerized deployment with smooth performance.

Challenges & Accomplishments
Developing High-Accuracy Models
