Inspiration
Recently I have struggled with packing for ski trips—reading a number on a weather app doesn’t fully prepare me for the cold. That’s why I wanted to harness the immersive power of XR: instead of guessing, why not experience the weather before packing?
What it does
Meta Wardrobe immerses you in real-time weather conditions, so you can virtually try on clothes suited for any climate. You can also purchase recommended items directly within the app, making outfit planning and shopping seamless.
How we built it
I used ShapesXR on web and Quest 3 to rapidly prototype and design the immersive experience. Their built-in asset library and free models from sites like Sketchfab gave me the flexibility to import and arrange elements quickly. This allowed me to focus on user interactions rather than building every 3D object from scratch.
Challenges we ran into
As a first-time ShapesXR user, I initially found it hard to navigate the interface. Luckily, ShapesXR’s documentation and tutorial videos helped me learn the basics. Designing a user interface that strikes the right balance between powerful features and a streamlined experience was another challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Despite having zero prior experience with 3D tools, I successfully created a proof-of-concept design. Seeing an immersive wardrobe planner come to life, even in a basic form, felt like a huge win.
What we learned
I discovered how impactful blending real-world data with interactive 3D design can be for practical use cases. I also gained familiarity with ShapesXR, learning how it streamlines the prototyping process and opens up new possibilities for XR design.
What's next for Meta Wardrobe
I plan to expand the range of weather scenarios to include extreme conditions like hurricanes, heatwaves, or tropical monsoons. AI-driven style recommendations and collaborations with additional fashion brands will strengthen the e-commerce aspect, positioning Meta Wardrobe as the go-to immersive platform for planning, shopping, and dressing for any climate.
