Inspiration
From our own experience of trying to book an ambulance and booking 2 by mistake, we decided that we want to try and simplify this process so that ambulance resources can be managed well. Along with this idea we wanted to include some sort of way for the general public to be able to help more.
What it does
We are trying to simplify the journey for the patient between the location of the accident and the hospital. We want to create a one-click service that can take care of all the complexities and problems without the user having to click twice.
With a single tap on the SOS button, a message and a call are sent to the emergency contacts (if any provided). We also call an ambulance for you, in case any ambulance is not found, we will try to find cars in the nearby area that are willing to help you reach the hospital.
How we built it
- We used Java to build the android mobile client
- We used Express.js over Node.js along with MongoDB to create the server
- We used Python to create a desktop console for hospitals
Challenges we ran into
- Trying to find a common tech stack
- Giving the user incentive to use the app was a major issue that was solved by using a credit system
- Trying to lock in the basic version without adding too much complexity
What's next for Messiah
- We want to integrate a payment system to be able to pay the helper
- A centralised reward system to thank our helpers
- A separate page to educate people on basic first aid techniques
- An ML model to try and find the optimal waiting period to receive responses from ambulances
- Sending the hospital basic information about the patient before the patient arrives
- Developing similar tech for wearables
- Integrating Messiah into smart cars
- Calculating driver search radius using an ML model
