Inspiration
After having a talk with one of our team member's dad who works closely with the elderly and dementia patients, we decided to do our small contribution and give back to the community that fosters our growth.
What it does
MCD is a scheduling app aimed towards helping dementia patients by sending notifications to the user for pre-defined calendar events/tasks.
How I built it
We built the front-end using Flutter and the Back-end using Firebase. Dart was our main programming language while we also used swift for better User Interface.
Challenges I ran into
This was the first time working with flutter and Dart programming language for all of us on the team so it was a bit difficult for us to get all the intricacies of the new language in such a short time.
What I learned
We learned the basics of Flutter App development whereas we also learned the importance and effectiveness of teamwork and delegation.
What's next for Messaging Calendar for Dementia Patients
We want to add an additional functionality of location tracking where a family member will get the notification in the case the user did not have access top their phone. We plan on implementing this functionality using Google Maps API.
