Inspiration/What it does

Many individuals struggle with internal emotions but lack an outlet. Message in a Bottle allows users to anonymously post a journal entry to send out into the "ocean" and have their bottled messages wash up on others's shores. In this way, we want to promote community, support, and healing for those who feel alone. Message in a Bottle is a safe space to vent and seek resources if one needs them.

How we built it

We started in Figma, brainstorming ways to design an intuitive and engaging platform where users can express difficult emotions without the fear of judgement. We ended up building a platform based on the popular cultural metaphor of throwing a bottled message out into sea. We aimed to create a fun and intuitive website where users could share, view, and like messages from their peers as well as seek helpful resources. From there, we built "Message in a Bottle" using React and Tailwind, creating a seamless experience for users to share and discover anonymous messages.

What's next for Message in a Bottle

We hope to implement text filtering in order to more accurately identify users who are in need of immediate assistance and support. Then we can connect them with the correct resources.
