Inspiration
8bit, pixel art, maze games, wizards
What it does
A 2D escape game. Dodge enemy goblins and collect mana to gain enough power to retrieve your staff and escape the goblin lair.
How we built it
We used Godot scripting and the Godot environment to build the entire game. Game art is sourced from various free-to-download sites
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was learning Godot from scratch so we could implement our ideas. One of the more challenging aspects of making the game was getting collision detection right for the goblins and player and dealing with animating the characters with suitable animation frames.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning how to develop a game in Godot, persevering, and completing our first hackathon!

How to develop 2D games with Godot
What's next for Merlin's Escape
Mini games between maze levels, an opportunity to continue through the goblin lair and fight enemies once you have your staff, firing spells at enemies, ambient audio, in-game event audio, and polished animations and movement (removing the player and goblin's moonwalking capabilities)
