Mercury

Inspiration

It was Mercury Retrograde season and a man I use to talk too romantically, texted me the words "I miss you.." and even though I missed him back my reaction to him was different to how it used to be and I decided to write about it in a song.

What it does

It's a music video that's supposed to look as realistic as it can do but also very sci-fi. I am Afro Futcha after all.

How we built it

I wrote the song myself I then used Suno to create the music. Because I am a music producer already I added my extra human touch which was harmonies some percussion, some flutes and some strings. I then started generating images from Midjourney and then continued to create those images in open art and Freepik and a tool I vibe coded using Google's Nano Banana API. I then used Dreamina for the lip syncing and for some of the other visuals. I used GROK mainly for animating most of my work. I then used to Filmora to edit.

Challenges we ran into

When I initially had ideas about the song I went to ChatGPT first but it wasn't giving me what I was feeling so I wrote this song myself and we structured the verses in the chorus so it sounded catchy but deeper meaningful to the person listening to it.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm really proud of how the lip sync came out using Dreamina was the perfect tool as it's able to catch emotion and even though I didn't need that much emotion in the music video because I wanted the singer to be quiet static and other-wordly it did a brilliant job bringing my character to life

What we learned

I learned that when writing things that come from the heart, it's very difficult to use AI tools and that's been the case for most of the things that I've written which have come from my heart. AI just can't replace that authenticity it has to come from me which I hope comes across in my music in my films.

What's next for Mercury

Hopefully more people will listen to it. Hopefully I can put it into more festivals and hopefully the man who I wrote it for will smile the next time he goes to text me that he misses me.
