Inspiration

We are all pretty big sports fans and wanted to build a project that fit in with that belief. We recognized the rise of popularity in esports and decided to try to work on something that would fit the growing industry. We settled on betting because of the increased popularity of apps like DraftKings and FanDuel over the last 2 years.

What it does

We created a live games tab where (if we had more time) we would have implemented an esports API to scrape current tournament games and results to track the stats in real-time. We had cards for each game where people could place bets using our patented Mercury Bucks on which team would win the game, which player would get the most kills, and who would win the MVP. With more time, we would have implemented an odds feature that would use an algorithm to balance the odds based on whichever player/team gets the most points betted. We created a leaderboard with some fake players that ranks them from 1-10 based on current point totals. With more time, we would implement a database and track the current scores every instant. We would also give first, second, and third their own color and try to add a logo showing what team that fan supports. Unfortunately, we weren't able to finish the homepage. We added a portfolio page, where in the future, we would add a news aggregator, a live graph of your bet gains/losses over time, and a place to chat with other users.

How we built it

HTML, CSS, and lots of YouTube videos.

Challenges we ran into

We were all new to hackathons, some of us even brand new to coding, so it was a real challenge teaching ourselves CSS and HTML while working on the project. We had some specific troubles reformatting buttons and cards to not be stacked on top of each other.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are super proud of how great the home page and betting cards look. We really came together as a team to crush this!

What we learned

We learned a lot about HTML, CSS, and some java. It was honestly a great experience.

What's next for Mercury Bets

Hopefully continue working on it and eventually launch a live website with the functions we talked about earlier.
