Inspiration
The idea for this originated when I saw a pile of previous year’s books which were of no use to me now. We thought this is a so common problem that almost every student might face. So why not do something to end this problem.
What it does
It is a mobile application plus a website designed to buy, sell or donate anything on campus. The person who wishes to sell or donate various items adds his/her things in the ‘sell’ section. The buyer can see all the things that are up for sale or donate by clicking the particular thing, the buyer can see the contact details of the seller and hence communicate effectively to come to a deal.
How we built it
We divided ourselves into 2 groups who were working on an android application and website respectively. Each of them stepped up and worked overtime to complete the project in time. We used various coding languages and graphic designing to produce the end result which is shown here.
Challenges we ran into
As a whole fresher team we had to learn about various stuff rather than directly implementing it. So, we had to face a lot of time crunch to complete the project in time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
To build an application in 36 hours is very hard. But, with the hard work that everyone put up, we were able to complete both app as well as a website and we are very proud of it. Both of them are working as we wished them to be!
What we learned
Some people who did not know about website building learned about it and likewise people who didn't know about app-building learned about it.
What's next for Mercator
We wish that each and every student across the globe use our application or website. Further, we wish to make this a campus necessity because this idea also helps the whole society in one way or another (Like we can reduce Deforestation).
