Inspiration

In today's hyper-connected world, modern communication can often feel too serious, logical, and exhausting. We wanted to recreate the pure, silly, and joyful moments of childhood—where ridiculous interactions and playful misunderstandings brought genuine laughter. Meownymous was born from the idea of intentionally breaking normal communication to spark joy.

What it does

Meownymous is a playful group chat app where all user messages are transformed into "Meow" (or "にゃー" depending on system language) in real-time.

• The Silent Party: During a limited-time topic room, users chat freely, but every message and reply appears only as cat noises with animations. Nobody knows what anyone is actually saying!
• The Big Reveal: Once the timer expires, all the masked "Meows" instantly revert to their original text. Users can read back through the chaotic, mismatched conversation and laugh at the hilarious misunderstandings.
• Monetization & Perks: Integrated with RevenueCat, users can unlock premium cat avatars generated by AI, remove ads, or save their favorite funny chat archives forever.

How we built it

• Frontend: Built with Flutter for smooth cross-platform (iOS/Android) cat animations and real-time UI updates.
• Backend: Powered by Firebase/Supabase to manage live chat rooms, multi-language localization (ja/en), and event timers.
• In-App Purchases: Integrated RevenueCat SDK to seamlessly handle subscription models (VIP Cat Pass) and digital avatar purchases.
• Assets: AI tools (DALL-E 3) were utilized to generate cute, high-quality black cat avatar artwork.

Challenges we ran into

Handling real-time state synchronization while masking text was tricky. Ensuring that the original user input remains completely hidden until the countdown finishes—without compromising client-side security—required careful database and state management architecture.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Creating a uniquely absurd yet heartwarming user experience.
• Building a smooth RevenueCat integration to turn a casual comedy app into a viable product with subcription perks.
• Supporting multi-language cat sounds (Japanese "にゃー" vs. English "Meow") based on locale!
