Inspiration

The most common problem in transportation logistics is about optimizing the resources. It is critical for transportation companies to the make efficient use of the shipping vehicles in order to minimize the trips, fuel costs and maximize goods transportation. We were inspired by the Inrix api - findroute. The functionality of the api is that it takes a set of waypoints and calculates one or more routes from the first waypoint to the last waypoint, passing through other optional waypoints in turn. We have also drawn inspiration from the National Logistics Policy 2022. The National Logistics Policy was developed to improve integration and cooperation among corporate entities, governmental organizations, and society as a whole in order to transform India's logistics industry into a significant driver of economic growth.

What it does

The purpose of this project is to cater to the needs of businesses that use roadways for goods transportation. It helps the transportation companies in analyzing the most efficient path for the shipping vehicles between different warehouses.

How we built it

We have built an algorithm which takes parameters like source and destination of the warehouses. Our algorithm finds a hub between the source and the destination, and the time taken from one warehouse to another. This analysis helps the transportation company in deciding the starting positions of the trucks and also the most optimal path between the source and the destination.

Challenges we ran into

Due to the extensive scope of this project, we had to identify key areas. It was vital to take this project's scope into consideration. We strived to create projects with clear, quantifiable objectives so that we can have proper conclusion.  Due to this factor, the project was the subject of extensive preparation and discussion. A huge concern was fitting in all the features within a set timeframe. The project was required to be thoroughly tested and designed in a short amount of time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This initiative will expedite the transportation process. It continuously monitors, assesses, and manages the transportation system for commercial use. It may be employed in many regions, can be used to transport commodities to numerous locations, and it enhances connectivity and accessibility. It's a cost-effective strategy in terms of time and fuel consumption.

What we learned

We learned about APIs and Postman. We were exposed to well curated APIs which increased our knowledge about how two software components interact. We gained the opportunity to work with others as a team towards the common goal.

What's next for

Even though more hubs and nodes can be added to identify the transportation in a wide range. The project's scope is restricted to the transportation services with the few central hubs. Additionally, we may conduct a thorough analysis and consider elements like real-time delays, the shortest path route with the more hubs, and a thorough comparison of various routes in terms of cost, fuel consumption, and traffic congestion. In order to transport as much goods as feasible, we might also take the truck's capacity into consideration when determining the bus routes. We also plan on working on an algorithm which will give and estimated maximum number of trucks that could enter a hub at the same time and also the maximum storage space that needs to be build at the hub to cater to a maximum number of payload coming to the warehouse This model only concentrates on improving the logistics via the road, but in the long run, we plan to also consider all multimodal means of transportation and offer business owners the most affordable, quick, and safe mode to transport their goods such that it could initially take the international water way route, coming into the inland waterway routes, using the railways, and then for the last mile connectivity use the trucks and transportation services.
