Inspiration

In the MLSA peer-peer mentorship program, we lack an organized way of communicating with one another and sharing all the events hosted by the mentors. Sending these communications over WhatsApp is not the most efficient way, since one must scroll through hundreds of chats to get to the important posters . The MLSA peer to peer program has seen an increase in the recent cohort with over 130+ learners in different tracks in technology e.g web, ML/AI, cybersecurity among others. The turn over of meetings have been seen to be low with only 20-40 learners attending the sessions and barely 20 learners able to get a hold of the announcements that are being posted in WhatsApp amongst other posts of their project’s progress.

What it does

Mentorship Cradle is a web platform for bringing together mentors and mentees in an interactive space for career development. Mentors and mentees can share sentiments and learn from one another while also upskilling with learning content and getting updates on upcoming events and recordings of previous events.

How we built it

  • The web app was created using React.js for frontend, node.js ,MongoDB, express.js for back-end

Challenges we ran into

  • UI/UX design was a challenge that slowed down the start of the project. -Time management during weekly team meetings

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Coming up with a demo for the mentorship cradle platform

What we learned

  • Collaborative development -Problem solving -Developing a web application using the MERN stack

What's next for MENTORSHIP CRADLE

  • Incorporating a smart way for matching the mentors and the mentees. e. g using AI or any other matching algorithms.

The mentees dashboard will include a rating of the best ranked mentor for visibility and ease of mentees to discern who is best at their respective questions and concerns

Inbuilt challenges like 100 days of code to motivate participants for example a streak chart as in GitHub and other learning platforms.

Incorporate social media features for people to interact with each other thus boosting motivation and making the program even more exciting than it is currently.
