Inspiration: We noticed that many learners struggle to find the right courses or instructors for their needs, while instructors often find it hard to reach students efficiently. We wanted to create a platform that connects learners and mentors in real-time, making learning accessible and teaching rewarding—a personal marketplace for knowledge.

What it does: MentorLink is a web app with two main perspectives: 1.Student POV: Learners can search for courses, choose instructors, and book sessions instantly. 2.Instructor POV: Mentors can list courses, receive requests, and manage their profile easily.

Key features include course search, booking, real-time notifications, and simple course/profile management.

How we built it: Our development journey followed a structured path from ideation to a functional MVP: 1.Ideation & Mentorship: We began with intensive brainstorming sessions to identify core problems and consulted with mentors to refine our value proposition. 2.UX/UI Design: We visualized the user journey and designed the web interface to ensure a seamless experience for both students and instructors. 3.Workflow & Deadlines: To ensure efficiency, we divided tasks among the team and set strict coding deadlines. 4.Development & Version Control: We built the platform using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, utilizing GitHub for version control and collaborative coding. 5.System Integration: We connected the two POVs so that when a student books, the instructor can accept, and a confirmation is sent in real-time. 6.Pricing Logic: We implemented a simulated payment system using our platform fee formula: Platform Fee = (Session Price x 10%) to 20%

Challenges and Accomplishments: We faced a few challenges, like syncing real-time updates for students and instructors, designing a simple yet complete user experience, and simulating payments without real transactions.

Despite this, we built a fully functional MVP in record time, enabled instant connections with a single click, and created a clean, intuitive interface that already feels polished and professional.

What we learned: Building a platform with two perspectives wasn’t easy. We had to make sure students and instructors could communicate smoothly. Making a simple, usable MVP turned out to be way more valuable than packing it with confusing features. Simulating payments and notifications gave us a good feel for both the business side and the user experience before going live.

Along the way, we learned a lot. We got better at teamwork and communication, stepped out of our comfort zones, tried new things, met new people, and discovered a lot about ourselves. Working under tight deadlines taught us how to handle pressure and work together, turning every challenge into a chance to grow.

What's next for MentorLink: If we had more time, we would love to make the system even more complete. This could include real payment processing and instructor/student reviews, a chat system for learners and instructors, support for multiple languages and time zones, and the ability for instructors to create video or online courses for more flexible learning.

We also imagine expanding it to help more people, like offering financial support for those in need, access to psychologists for guidance, or connecting doctors with patients. There’s so much potential to make it more helpful and meaningful for everyone.
