The journey to career success often feels overwhelming - where do you start? What skills matter most? How do you know if you're on the right track? We noticed students and early professionals struggle with fragmented learning resources and lack of personalized guidance. Traditional career counseling is expensive and time-consuming, while online resources are scattered and generic.

Mentora-App was born from a simple question: What if everyone had access to an AI mentor that could create a personalized roadmap tailored to their unique goals, timeline, and interests?

Personalized Roadmaps: Google Gemini AI generates custom learning paths in under 10 seconds based on your career goal, skills, interests, and timeline
Gamified Learning: Earn XP, unlock achievements, maintain streaks, and level up as you progress through your roadmap
Smart Resume Analysis: Upload your resume for instant ATS compatibility scoring and actionable improvement suggestions
Competitive Leaderboards: Track your progress against peers and climb the ranks
Progress Tracking: Visual dashboards show your journey with completed nodes, earned XP, and achievement milestones

How we built it

Tech Stack

Frontend: Flutter (Dart) - Cross-platform mobile app with beautiful Material Design UI
Backend: Supabase (PostgreSQL) - Real-time database, authentication, and storage
AI: Google Gemini 1.5 Pro - Roadmap generation and resume analysis
State Management: Provider pattern for reactive UI updates
Architecture: Clean architecture with separation of concerns

Challenges we ran into

AI Consistency Issues Problem: Gemini occasionally generated roadmaps with inconsistent JSON structure, breaking our parser. Solution: Implemented strict schema validation and retry logic with enhanced prompts specifying exact JSON format requirements. Added fallback templates for critical failures.
Database Performance Problem: Loading complex roadmaps with 50+ nodes caused noticeable lag on older devices. Solution: Implemented pagination for roadmap nodes, lazy loading for resources, and client-side caching with TTL (Time To Live) strategy.
Resume Parsing Accuracy Problem: PDF extraction struggled with multi-column layouts and custom resume templates. Solution: Integrated multiple parsing libraries (PyPDF2, pdfplumber) with fallback chain. Used Gemini to extract content even from imperfect text extraction.
Authentication Edge Cases Problem: Google Sign-In occasionally failed to sync user profile data to our database. Solution: Built robust error handling with automatic retry mechanisms and manual profile completion prompts.
