Inspiration
Learning should be engaging, but bland video lessons with no personalized context just don't cut it anymore. We wanted to create something that truly captures students' attention while giving parents meaningful insights into their child's progress—so we built Mentolo AI, a holographic mentor that makes education interactive and fun.
What it does
Mentolo AI is a holographic AI mentor that provides personalized, engaging learning experiences for students. It adapts to each student's learning style and pace, making lessons interactive and contextual. Parents receive real-time insights and suggestions about their child's progress, challenges, and achievements, helping them stay involved in their child's educational journey.
How we built it
We built Mentolo AI using a combination of cutting-edge technologies. The AI backend leverages Gemini and ElevenLabs API for natural language processing and personalized tutoring. We created the holographic display using Unity for 3D character animation and custom 3D printed parts to house the projection system. The parent dashboard was built with modern web technologies to provide real-time analytics and insights.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was creating a dynamic holographic character that could respond naturally to student interactions. Working with Unity to animate the 3D mentor and integrating it with custom 3D printed hardware required extensive testing and iteration to achieve smooth, realistic movements and proper display quality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're incredibly proud of bringing a truly holographic AI mentor to life—something that feels like science fiction but is now real. Successfully integrating AI-powered personalized learning with an engaging physical presence, while also building a comprehensive parent monitoring system, represents a major achievement in making education more accessible and engaging.
What we learned
We learned how to seamlessly integrate hardware and software to create immersive educational experiences. We gained deep insights into educational psychology and how students respond to different teaching methods. We also discovered the importance of balancing student engagement with meaningful parental involvement without being intrusive.
What's next for Mentolo AI
Mentolo AI can evolve into an end-to-end student learning management platform with expanded features, including curriculum planning, homework assistance, progress tracking across multiple subjects, collaborative learning tools, and integration with school systems. We envision adding more holographic characters specialized in different subjects and age groups to make learning even more personalized and effective.
