Inspiration
We want to ease the burden of making financial decisions for young women who lack guidance, so we were inspired to create a space where women can connect with peers and learn to build smart money habits.
What it does
MentHER is a peer-matching website that connects women for financial guidance. Users can message mentors, book coffee chats, track milestones, and use an AI coach for on-demand support.
How we built it
We built this project using React and CSS for the frontend. We implemented GeminiAPI for the AI Coaching feature. The website is hosted on Vercel.
Challenges we ran into
Initially, we were challenged by the scope of the project. We started with a narrow scope of creating a mentor-matching website strictly for Fidelity. After consulting professionals, we broadened the scope to include women from all companies and even universities. This would expand our user base and use cases. We also struggled designing a frontend that satisfied our vision for the website, and we fixed this with iteration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how we collaborated as a team to form a unique product idea. We are also proud of how we were able to improve the initial wireframe and end with a UI that satisfied the whole team, especially considering the time constraints.
What we learned
To keep users safe, we learned that we must verify credibility. We decided to go with a verified academic/work email during signup to verify the user’s identity. Additionally, we learned more about deploying websites with Vercel and integrating APIs.
What's next for mentHER
To improve our website, we would like to implement 2-factor authentication to ensure user security. We could also integrate Google Calendar to improve the convenience of scheduling coffee chats. Our platform would also like to collaborate with women’s financial groups such as the Financial Women’s Association to promote our website to a national audience.
