Inspiration

The inspiration behind MentHer stems from a remarkable event attended by one of our team members. This event, hosted by "Rewriting the Code," showcased the immense potential of women in STEM-related fields. "Rewriting the Code" is a dynamic community dedicated to reducing gender inequality within tech companies. Witnessing the impact of such gatherings, we recognized an opportunity to contribute further by creating a mentorship platform that connects women seeking guidance with experienced mentors.

What it does

MentHer is a cutting-edge virtual mentorship web application that facilitates connections between mentees and mentors. Our platform empowers mentees by offering access to a rich array of events, workshops, and an extensive resource library. These resources are carefully curated to empower women on their professional journeys.

How we built it

To bring MentHer to life, we harnessed the power of Next.js and Google Firebase. We leveraged Clerk for seamless account authentication and authorization, ensuring top-tier security. To capture comprehensive user profiles, we integrated with Google Firebase to store essential user information. With user profiles in place, each individual can access personalized dashboards that provide valuable insights and features.

Challenges we ran into

Our team embraced a stack that was somewhat new to us, with Next.js as the chosen framework. Adapting to the async/await paradigm and mastering the intricacies of "use client" components were some of the challenges we navigated. Additionally, some team members embarked on their first journey with Chakra UI and Formik, investing significant time in understanding and implementing these tools.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our proudest accomplishment is our ability to seamlessly implement Next.js and conduct CRUD operations using Firebase. This achievement represents a significant step toward providing a robust and functional platform for our users.

What we learned

Throughout the development of MentHer, we gained invaluable insights into the importance of teamwork and the vast landscape of APIs, frameworks, and tools available for web development. This learning experience has deepened our appreciation for collaboration and innovation.

What's next for MentHer

Our vision for MentHer extends to the implementation of a sophisticated matching algorithm powered by cluster-based machine learning. This algorithm will enhance mentor-mentee pairings, providing more precise and effective connections. Additionally, we plan to refine the user interface on the events page and integrate MentHer with popular social platforms like Eventbrite and Meta. These exciting developments will amplify the reach and impact of MentHer, empowering even more women in tech.
