Inspiration

Until now Indonesia is still called a developing country. One of the reasons is because of the slow development of science and technology even though the world is currently entering the industrial revolution 4.0 Rudiantara, Minister of Communication and Information Technology in Indonesia, said that the quality of education in the ICT sector in Indonesia is ranked 4th in Southeast Asia after Singapura, Malaysia dan Philipina. Nevertheless, it's still causes a lack of competent Indonesian personnel in the ICT industry. Being in the ICT field is not that easy. This field is said to have a steep learning curve so that it requires more effort to be able to study it thoroughly and maturely. Therefore, it is very necessary to have a mentor to be able to help and guide someone to develop their potential, especially in the field of ICT. A mentor is someone who has more experience than you and they can guide you in mastering the skills necessary for your career and future success. The main problem is, it is difficult to find a mentor who can provide guidance especially in the ICT field. Therefore, we created mentees, a website to be able to find mentors more easily and quickly equipped with several supporting features that will certainly help us in developing our potential, especially in the ICT field.

What it does

We created Mentees, a platform for anyone who wants to find a mentor and ask in a private forum. We have 3 features, that is Find Mentor, Forum, and Chat. You can find mentors that have similarities in interest or skill. In Mentees, mentees could send requests to any mentor anywhere, so anyone could find a mentor in an interactive way and also with ease. Mentors also have an easy way to teach their mentees, because everything could be done in Mentees. Forum provides anyone who wants to ask and get answered in private chat. With this flow, someone who asks could follow up the question to someone who answers and get the best answer. Lastly with chat, that provides anyone with an easy way to conversing with mentors also with others who answer our questions in Forum.

Challenges we ran into

Our plan was to have a realtime chat feature to make it easier for users to converse with a mentor and also to have discussions about questions in a Forum. However, after seeing the progress of our code, we couldn’t make it to implement a realtime chat. This challenge also because we haven't got any experience with creating realtime chat.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we could implement our main feature in a 36 hours Hackathon. We learn about new clean architecture in code, new knowledge about UI implementation in React, and many more. The most impressive thing that we are proud of is how we could implement our ideas into real projects, so anyone could have the easiest way to find a mentor and we could manage time to create MVP for our ideas..

What we learned

We learned how to build websites and how to cooperate with each other and manage time. Even though most of our members are new to hackathons, we are happy to be able to build this website because we believe our product can help people tp find Mentors, a problem that even us has faced.

What's next for Mentees

The list shown in Mentor recommendations will be adjusted according to all of Mentee’s interests and Mentor’s skill so that the chance of getting a suitable Mentor is high. Additionally, we’d like to implement a feature that’ll be able to send codes and immediately show the result of the codes in a forum so that it’ll be easier for people to help each other. Mentees will also be built as a progressive web apps so that it’s easy to access from everywhere and show notifications when there are new chats.
