Inspiration Creative learners are drowning in tutorials but starving for real feedback. Musicians, designers, writers, and filmmakers often feel lost without direct human guidance. We built Mentee to replace passive learning with real conversations — fast, accessible, and personal micro-mentorship sessions designed for the way creatives actually learn.

What it does Mentee connects aspiring creatives with peer mentors for quick, focused, live coaching sessions. Users choose their interests, book online or in-person micro-sessions, earn credits by teaching skills, and track their progress with badges, streaks, and personalized learning paths. It’s a blend of Duolingo’s motivation, Calendly’s scheduling, and Skillshare’s creativity — all in one platform.

How we built it We built Mentee using a React frontend powered by Vite, styled with custom components and a consistent creative-focused design palette. The platform is deployed through GitHub Pages with a responsive layout, interactive UI elements, and modular components for scheduling, session browsing, and mentor/learner dashboards. Our initial MVP focuses on client-side functionality, with mock data and static routing representing the core user flows and future backend integration.

Challenges we ran into We struggled with Node version conflicts and deployment hurdles caused by older macOS limitations. Designing an intuitive UX that supports both online and in-person mentorship took multiple iterations.

Accomplishments that we're proud of We created a polished, functional MVP with a complete end-to-end user journey — from skill discovery to scheduling a micro-session. We built a clean and accessible interface and a cohesive brand identity. We’re especially proud of the skill-swap credit system and the overall clarity of the user flow.

What we learned We learned how much value real-time mentorship adds compared to traditional tutorial-based learning. We deepened our experience with React + Vite, improved our deployment workflow, and gained a better understanding of design principles. We also learned that simple, focused features, like quick scheduling and peer matching, dramatically improve user experience.

What’s next for Mentee Next, we plan to add a full backend with user accounts, mentor verification, live video integration, and a real credit/points economy. We’ll build real-time scheduling, chat, and notifications, expand accessibility options, and introduce AI-assisted mentor matching. Our long-term goal is to grow Mentee into a global creative learning network where anyone can teach and anyone can learn
