Inspiration

During my journey in frontend development, I realized my true passion lies in backend technology. Despite my capabilities, I struggled to secure a backend internship. This challenge made me aware of a more significant problem: many young adults grapple with navigating the right career or academic path. They might know where they want to go, but not necessarily the steps to get there. With Career counselling being expensive and often out of reach for middle-class students, I decided to create a solution: Mentea.

What it does

Mentea is a platform built to bridge the gap between dreams and reality for young students and professionals. It connects aspirants with mentors and study abroad counselors who have recently been through similar paths. These mentors, often senior students or recent graduates, offer a fresh, relatable perspective. This peer-driven approach not only benefits the mentee in gaining actionable guidance but also provides mentors with an opportunity to give back to the community.

How I built it

To make Mentea both efficient and user-friendly, we leveraged Next.js and React. These frameworks allowed us to build a dynamic and interactive UI. For data storage and user authentication, Firebase was our go-to solution due to its scalability and robustness. Material-UI (MUI) helped in achieving a sleek and intuitive design interface, making the platform inviting and easy to navigate. To establish a seamless communication channel between mentors and mentees, we integrated the VideoSDK tool, paving the way for real-time video interactions.

Challenges I ran into

One of the most substantial challenges we've encountered so far is constructing our video calling system. We aim to make it efficient, user-friendly, and seamless to ensure the best experience for our users. Building it from scratch, while ensuring security and performance, is a complex task, but one we're keen on mastering.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

Our journey with Mentea has been full of gratifying milestones. We're honored to have been recognized by BuildSpace and SSIP 2.0 - an initiative by the Gujarat government that encourages students to build successful startups. Such recognitions affirm our commitment to making a positive difference.

What's next for Mentea

The future is promising. We aim to formally launch Mentea as a leading service provider in the mentorship space. Our next steps involve the onboarding process for both students and mentors, ensuring a rich pool of talent and guidance available for all users. Through Mentea, we aspire to help thousands find their direction, one mentorship session at a time.
