Inspiration
We've all downloaded a habit app, missed one day, watched the streak reset to zero, and quit. The problem isn't discipline, it's that these apps run on pressure, and pressure burns you out. We wanted something that meets you where you actually are.
What it does
Mentality gives you one small thing a day, and it reads your energy first. Low energy gets "stretch for 60 seconds." Good energy gets more. No streaks, nothing turns red when you miss a day. All with the guidance of your own personal AI trainer.
How we built it
We used GitHub CoPilot for the backend with Groq API, generating each day's action from the user's goal and energy check-in, and GitHub CoPilot + Claude Design for the frontend.
Challenges we ran into
Honestly, combing the frontend and backend was incredible difficult, because implementing an AI trainer that adapts is very elaborate and led to us running out of tokens multiple times. The AI also has very little training so the strength of activity recommendations isn't the best at the moment.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We made a tool that actually has an impact on the world right now. Anyone can use it, and it doesn't cost anything. It's totally free to be widely accessible, and making something that shows that is something we're proud of.
What we learned
We learned that training can be more efficient if you take it slower, burnout often leads to delayed results due to unexpected breaks from stress. A tool that revolves around making sure you complete your goal without failure can be helpful for everyone.
What's next for Mentality: Self Improvement, Simplified
We want to train the AI with a variety of different users, this leads to improved and quicker results. Also we would like to add a sign in feature so the interface for each user is personalized giving the ability to track specific sessions within GitHub repos.
