Inspiration
Sometimes, situations can trigger intense emotional responses. After a while, it can seem as if Situation === Emotional Response when sometimes it's actually Situation then Emotional Response. One way to gain control is to become aware of the situation itself and how you process it. A nice method is through Mindful Journalling, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy has some cool techniques that can guide us through this process.
What it does
It's a web app that allows us to do Guided Mindful Journalling. First, we chill out with some sweet sweet ☁ lofi ☁ just to allow some of the more intense emotions to diffuse. Next we take a dive into the triggering situation with some hints as to the perspectives we can look at it from. Finally, we get a birds eye view of situation and how we feel about it & react to it.
How we built it
I used Create React App with Typescript as the framework. For the UI, I used Tailwind CSS along with daisyUI. Finally, I used the React Awesome Button npm package for the big call to action button that's on the landing page!
Challenges we ran into
I ran into a slight challenge when setting up a ref to an input field. Typescript was complaining with an error message that seemed kinda cryptic.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I'm most proud of getting the idea from a thought to a finished thing 😁 This is always a super fun process, despite any 🐛🐜🐛🐜 or challenges.
What we learned
I learned how to use the Youtube API with React
What's next for mental-pitstop
I want to add user accounts and also use sentiment analysis to allow a user to see how their feelings towards a situation changes over time.
