Inspiration
Our inspiration was to create a simple, but fun game like Block Blast that looked to still provide people with mental stability, resilience, and support. We did not just want to focus on one singular part of the mind to help, but take multiple parts, so that the user can get the most out of their usage of the game.
What it does
The game prompts the user to match certain objects to categories shown on the screen, and then is designed to give them a summary of what they had or were supposed to learn from the activity. If the user were to be super invested in the actual game, then the summary is designed to help them understand what it is they were taught. The game will also show a graph of their progression, which will allow the user to see how they have evolved through the use of the app. Finally, the app is designed to take the user's input on how they are feeling daily, so that the categories in the game are tied to their problem.
How we built it
We built it using React native and then imported open-source libraries for the game categories, and then used ai models to create the graph (which shows the user's results) and also allocate the user's input after their daily mood choice.
Challenges we ran into
We had initially tried to use Unity, but we came across a huge issue with not being able to share the project amongst each other. We were unfamiliar with Unity and didn't have a lot of time on our hands to learn it, so halfway through, we quit that and switched to using react native and VS Code to create the app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of the idea of how versatile it is and the scope to which it reaches, and we are also proud of how the app is structured and looks. The code runs well the and we are proud of how much we accomplished in such a short period of time.
What we learned
We learned more about React native, and we learned about the importance of sticking to what you know. Even if it is valuable to try and learn something new like Unity, it is better to build on something that already has a foundation than to start completely from scratch, such as react native.
What's next for Mental Map
Making the game multiplayer, so that people can enjoy this game with their friends and add a little more of a competitive edge to the game, which allows them to play more, giving the game more data, and in turn providing them with more adequate and accurate help.
