Inspiration

Both of us are both high school students, and we both have felt the anxiety and stress that comes with being a highschool student trying to meet the standards of those around us and to have a successful future. We both thought that an app that focuses on improving the user's mental health was something that was much needed in today's world, especially after the pandemic we just experienced.

What it does

Our app provides a plethora of features in order to provide the user with many options to help relieve themselves in whatever way they choose. Our app provides features to play jokes and affirmations to the user whenever they please to brighten their mood and to empower them as well. We also have an option to play soothing and calming music in our app to also add to the calming ambience of the app. Lastly, the users are able to send an email to a counselor under our 'Counsel' button, both anonymously and with their name.

How we built it

We built this app by using vs code and GitHub. We worked separately on different parts of the app and combined them together towards the end of the competition. We first started by brainstorming and planning out how the code would work and intertwine with the GUI. We then worked on coding and researching throughout the day and we ended up combining our codes together to create a finished product.

Challenges we ran into

We did have a few bumps in the road as we made our app. Specifically, getting the email counseling to work was very hard as we both had no experience with making emails send through python. However, after researching and testing we were finally able to create something that worked.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were both proud to learn about a coding language that was relatively new to us, and how to make an app with it. Specifically, using Tkinter and being able to apply different modules to our program in order to create our final product.

What we learned

We both learned a great deal of things during this Hackathon that we are very proud of. Probably the biggest thing for us was learning how to use Tkinter to make a GUI for our app. It was also great for us to be able to learn about playing sounds and speech in python, and also sending emails through the program as well.

What's next for Mental Healthcare Manager

In the future, we plan to develop the Mental Healthcare manager into a more professional application with improved features and user interface for the app to be more welcoming to new users. One big step for the Mental Healthcare Manager would also be introducing our app to our relative highschools as an option for students to be able to turn to when they ever find themselves in tough times due to stress and anxiety like William and I found ourselves in due to school. This app would also be a great asset to those outside of school as well, including adults that feel burnt out from their monotonous jobs and rough situations. People of all ages would reap great benefits from having this app bring a little joy into their lives, helping them get through whatever they may encounter.
