Inspiration

Both my and teammate and I are very passionate about mental health. We know firsthand how truly common it is, and yet so few people know much about it or how to help those struggling. We think it is important to educate those who don't know much about it, as well as provide resources for those who need them.

What it does

This is a simple site designed to be very user friendly and easy to understand. It educates on the topic and provides resources for those who could use them. It has a nav bar on the top so it is easy to get to the section you want, and navigate between each of them. Every link opens in a new tab to make it extra easy to re-navigate back to the original site, while still having the information is gives somewhere else.

How we built it

We used HTML and CSS with a little bit of Javascript in Visual Studio Code. We also used the internet a lot to find our facts and other links we have compiled on the site.

Challenges we ran into

We really struggled to get the photos on the "Coping Strategies" tab. We had to photoshop them out of their background, so they only lived on our desktop. This made it really difficult to get them into vs code in a way that everyone could see. We also messed up the way we set up lists in the HTML, so when going into the CSS it was hard to space everything out properly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of how we made it easy to navigate, because the whole point is that it should be a resource for everyone and anyone that needs it.

What we learned

We learned more about javascript which we weren't super experienced with, which is definitely helpful for our overall programming journey. We also learned a lot more about flexbox in CSS and how to put everything exactly where we wanted for website development.

What's next for Mental Health Matters

We would ideally make it bigger with more information available to those who see it. We would want to make a place for people to share their own thoughts, like a blog or a chat group so the users can interact with each other. We would also ideally incorporate an AI or live person chatbox so in case anyone needed to reach out at any time, they could do it through the site itself.
