Inspiration
The beginning of the pandemic lead to a lot of eyes on the news which only caused more stress about the unknown of COVID-19.
What it does
It allows you to mimic getting rid of news sources which can, in the long term, become stress sources. Also, provide a reminder to step outside. Nature scenes/sounds can help reduce your heart rate and anxiety levels.
How we built it
The site through html, css, and JavaScript. Model through Maya.
Challenges we ran into
Working with the Maya software. We were ambitious to learn new software for this project. We couldn't get the Maya model to render on the webpage using Three.js as the colors aren't visible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Rendering the 3D model/animation onto a webpage. Big breakthrough for us.
What we learned
To maybe do projects for hackathons with skills we are a little more familiar with.
What's next for Stop Looking At The News
We would turn it in a chrome extension which would monitor how much time spent on news articles. After an amount of time, it would remind you to step outside (if possible) promote times away from consuming more content. Staying attached to more news can actually increase anxiety because we crave control over the future, but that craving will never be satisfied since there are many things out of our control.
