Inspiration
Seeing so many of our peers face difficulties due to mental health issues, we wanted to help them to open up about the difficulties that they experience. For someone affected by mental illness, it can be overwhelming, even downright frustrating, to speak to people face to face and their peers may not always understand how to respond or advise them. So our app allows you to communicate with anonymous, trained listeners, who are there to do just that: listen.
What it does
Users can create an account on our webapp, then when they log in they can choose to either talk or listen. If the user is talking, it will match them with an online listener, starting a phone call from the browser to the listener's phone and then the talker and listener can chat. If the user is a listener, it is the opposite: when matched with a talker, the listener will simply receive a phone call from our Twilio number.
How we built it
We used NodeJS as the backend we used the twilio API to make the calls.
Challenges we ran into
Twilio broke halfway through, SQL broke, everything broke => Tears
What we learned
Javascript, HTML, Twilio, SQl
