Inspiration
Our source of motivation for choosing this idea were celebrities. Many cricketers we follow openly talked about a phase where they were mentally disturbed. Virat Kohli (India) and Glenn Maxwell (Australia) are a few to mention. Lately, Rahul Dravid (Former Indian Cricketer) termed mental health as a big challenge, and Ben Stokes (English Cricketer) took an ‘indefinite break’ from all sorts of cricket due to mental health.
What it does
“Mental Health Buddy” is our solution to this problem. It allows more social interactions. We observed that teenagers are normally more comfortable to open up with friends. We hope that our solution will help them connect with each other. By doing this we give them a break from their hectic schedule and allow them to interact with others. An important factor that makes “Mental Health Buddy” different is that anyone can be a part of the group, like the school teachers, etc.
How we built it
Using AppScript
Challenges we ran into
Different time zone. This is our first hackathon. Completing a viable product in a day, was a bit challenging.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are finding a solution to a theme that deserves more attention and visibility. Within a day’s work we were able to make a product that could easily help teenagers. It is a simple solution to a complex problem.
What we learned
We learnt a lot about coding and had lots of fun.
What's next for Mental Health Buddy
In the future, we will be looking to try a pilot in our school, and hopefully launch this product. We know a few experts in the area of marketing, so we can interact with them and we will set up a professional website. We can market in schools and NGOs. We weren’t able to finish gamifying our product, to encourage usage. We want to seek school counselors in a protected environment. We would enhance the quality of conversations by using sample survey forms. We weren’t able to set up a website, so we would like to do this after the contest.
