Menstrual Maze

Inspiration

Menstrual Maze follows someone going to their local store to purchase period products. Today, period products are far more expensive than they should be. We believe that sanitary products, including period products like pads or tampons, should be free. Instead of having to purchase their products, the user plays a quick trivia game instead! If the user gets all of the answers right, they get redirected to a QR code for a free menstrual product! If the user doesn’t get them all right, we provide resources for them to study and try again, leading to more learning on period poverty.

What it does

Our product aims to direct the player’s attention towards the hidden struggles surrounding period poverty and menstrual insecurity. Because menstruation is a “taboo” or “shameful” subject, people are hesitant to facilitate the discussions needed to resolve this crisis. By addressing the issue head-on, we hope to show players that it’s both okay and necessary to start discussing menstruation. Additionally, be redirecting players to resources for further education and showing people direct ways to help, we hope to increase advocacy surrounding period poverty. By getting sponsors and fundraising, we hope to be able to give as many people as possible access to free menstrual products.

Challenges we ran into

A key challenge our group faced was the timeframe. Because we had a limited amount of time to complete our project, we realized on Day 2 that it wouldn’t be feasible to try to code out everything we had originally planned on doing. However, we worked around these obstacles and narrowed down our goals so that we kept as many of our original ideas as possible without sacrificing our precious time. Additionally, because some of our group members are relatively new to game/website development, we initially struggled a little to get on our feet. However, as everybody began to work more on the project, we became comfortable with the software.
