Inspiration

2015 – 2018 we provided legal assistance at the Class IIA Jember Lembaga Pemasyarakatan (LAPAS), we see women victims of violence after the trial, trauma when meeting people and not having a job, eventually cause their economy to collapse. From there we realized that women victims of violence need not only legal assistance, but also economic and social assistance.

What it does

We created a Mengayu website for vulnerable women, to help them deal with their trauma by connecting to Indonesian Legal Aid Institutions, as well as the Indonesian Psychologist Association. After surviving mental health enough, we will provide job training and then develop a safe workspace around them.

Challenges we ran into

2020-2021 we are trying to build a social enterprise to empower women by providing job training and providing safe workspaces for women, in Jember Regency, East Java, to reduce their financial burden, they can also restore their self-confidence and can SPEAKUP to help themselves.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

After providing access to job training in hair and facial care to 14 vulnerable women in collaboration with women's organizations and local vocational training centers, 5 of whom have opened a home treatment business from house to house, they are happy to be able to connect and be able to strengthen each other with female consumers.

What we learned

After developing home treatment, we tried to develop a new business to process organic waste in Jember Regency, because we saw that Jember's waste which reached 800/ton per day had not been managed properly, we collaborated with women who care about the environment. produces eco-enzyme products that are useful for curing itching on the body, healing wounds, liquid organic fertilizer as a substitute for urea fertilizer for home plantations.

What's next for Mengayu

Through the Mengayu website, we want to connect with 20 vulnerable women/year, provide on-the-job training in organic waste management and environmentally friendly enzyme production, help increase the income of vulnerable women and connect with other women out there.
