Inspiration
In our community, mental health is stigmaitized and often correlated with "something wrong with that person". In addition, "therapy apps" or "self-help apps" are mostly empty and focus on labeling the user, or making them feel good without actually teaching them or solving the problem.
What it does
The purpose of the app/website is to teach about mental health and normalize it. Out message isn't "it is important to learn mental health," we actively teaches the user about mental health in an effective way that goes from basic 'what do you feel' to applying all the knowledge in between on yourself and relationships. Our framework is based on the three-stage recovery model by psychiatrist Judith Herman that maps out the steps and framework of how someone should learn about mental health in an effective way. At the end of each stage, we end with a 'carry-on' question helping the student to apply this knowledge and observe it in their own life
How we built it
I developed the idea and the general framework on how the app should work, but I don't have the code/program. I used claude for finding the framework and simplyfing it to map it to my original idea.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was how to make the idea "non-labeling," as in design the interaction with the user to not label them and focus on teaching them while giving them a sample of the treatment (of course, going to therapy is required the app is not enough). And how to keep the pacing more flexible with 'integration' sessions in between, so it doesn't feel merely textbook dumping.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Developing the framework of how the app should work.
What we learned
I learnt a lot about mental health that I didn't previously know, actually. I learnt from the project more than I have learnt before.
What's next for Menealth
Developing the code/program and distributing it in the middle east
