Inspiration

Inspired by the stories on queering the map. We wanted the add a twist to the traditional social media apps by including a map! There is something magical about visiting places you have been to before and now understanding the personal connection someone else might have to that place.

What it does

A full stack app for users to mark their favorite memories on a map and view the memories of others based on location.

How we built it

Tech Stack:

  • Typescript
  • React
  • React Redux
  • Axios
  • React Styled Components
  • React Router
  • Express
  • MongoDB
  • Mongoose
  • JSON Web Tokens
  • Bcrypt
  • Joi
  • Webpack
  • CSS
  • HTML
  • Google Map API

Challenges we ran into

Learning Typescript was a challenge because the typing isn't very obvious.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team is really happy with the progress we made learning typescript. We know that Typescript does make debugging much easier in the long run.

What we learned

This is the first time we worked together as a group especially remotely but we were very good at dividing up our tasks, pair programming, and leveraging each other's expertise.

What's next for MemoryMarker

There are a few features we would like to add in the future:

  • Allowing Users to post anonymously
  • Adding tags to post
  • Search and Filter
  • Admin portal to enable content moderation
  • Adding pictures to your post
