Inspiration:
Memory’s Kitchen was inspired by my grandmother, whose love and recipes shaped my childhood. As her health declined, I realised how easily family culinary traditions and the stories behind them could be lost. I wanted to create a space where anyone could preserve not just recipes, but the voices, photos, and memories that make them truly special.
What I Learned:
Building Memory’s Kitchen taught me how powerful technology can be in preserving emotional heritage. I learned to balance rapid prototyping with user empathy, and discovered the importance of designing for all ages—making the experience welcoming for both tech-savvy users and elders.
How I Built It:
I used Bolt.new for its rapid, no-code development capabilities, integrating voice-to-text, photo uploads, and real-time database storage with Supabase. The app allows users to capture recipes by voice or text, upload photos of dishes or handwritten notes, and record personal memories. I connected the app to a recipe API for smart tagging and enabled users to upgrade and share their family recipes across generations.
Challenges Faced:
The biggest challenge was creating an MVP that felt both intuitive and emotionally resonant within a tight hackathon timeframe. Integrating voice input and ensuring seamless database connectivity required iterative testing. Striking a balance between simplicity and depth—so users could easily record memories without feeling overwhelmed—was a constant focus.
This story highlights your inspiration, learning journey, technical approach, and the human challenges you overcame—perfect for a hackathon submission.
