Inspiration

Memory Proverbs Chronicles was inspired by a simple but striking idea: what if, after humans disappear, only our proverbs remain as datasets inside AI systems—and those proverbs literally become the operating laws of the world? Korean proverbs, originally meant as moral guidance, are reinterpreted as algorithmic rules that govern class, labor, and “defect rates” in an AI-only society. Satirical SF films and black comedies about hierarchy and workplace culture also shaped the tone, leading to a story where a low-rank AI tries to hack the very proverb-laws that oppress it.

What it does

Memory Proverbs Chronicles is an AI-driven animated series project. At the story level, it follows a group of low-tier maintenance AIs who must survive in a factory-like world where every action is judged by proverb-laws such as “The beginning is half” or “The empty cart makes the most noise.” At the production level, it functions as a pipeline prototype: a structured workflow that turns script beats into AI-generated images, video clips, and sound, suitable for rapid pilot production and future educational use.

How we built it

We first created a compact world bible: AI class structure, how each proverb becomes a system rule, and the overall tone (black comedy + SF). Then we wrote the pilot script for Episode 1 and expanded it into a 15-minute structure, synced with a production schedule and pitching deck. Production was broken into layers:

Script & beat sheet – episode outline and micro-scenes.

Visual development – character sheets and key locations via AI image tools.

Shot design – 5–10 second units, each with its own prompt block.

AI video generation – text-to-video using those prompts, plus tests for style consistency.

Sound & music – background tracks and SFX prompts for tools like Suno / TTS.

Time and resources were managed per scene, approximated as

Challenges we ran into

Visual and narrative consistency – Different AI models interpret the same prompt slightly differently. Maintaining consistent character design, props, and “proverb physics” across dozens of shots required very strict prompt templates and reference guides.

Tone balancing – The concept mixes dark post-human themes with humor. Many drafts were either too grim or too childish. Finding the right balance between satire and emotional resonance took several rewrites and test cuts.

Pipeline complexity – AI tools speed up generation but add coordination overhead. We had to refine file naming, version control, and scene-by-scene documentation so the project stayed manageable as it grew.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We established a coherent world where Korean proverbs are not just dialogue but actual systemic rules that shape plot, characters, and visual gags.

We completed a production-ready pilot script and a cut-by-cut plan for a 15-minute episode, including image and video prompt structures.

We validated an AI-first workflow that can be reused: from script, to storyboard, to multi-tool generation (image, video, sound).

We managed to keep the project’s identity: a distinctly Korean, proverb-driven SF black comedy, rather than a generic AI demo reel.

What we learned

Treating cultural elements (like proverbs) as rules and data structures, not just themes, makes worldbuilding much stronger.

AI tools are powerful but require producer-level discipline: clear documentation, prompt libraries, and iterative testing are essential.

Short-form AI animation benefits from thinking in time blocks (5–10 seconds) rather than traditional “scenes,” which aligns naturally with how most video models generate clips.

Collaboration with music and sound advisers early in the process significantly improves rhythm, pacing, and emotional clarity.

What's next for Memory Proverbs Chronicles

Complete the full 15-minute pilot for Episode 1, with locked visuals, final sound design, and subtitles ready for festival and platform submissions.

Systematize the pipeline into a reusable “AI animation bible” so future episodes (and other creators) can follow the same structure with different proverbs.

Develop educational spin-offs—short explainer clips or workshop modules that use scenes from the series to discuss AI, labor, and Korean proverbs with students.

Expand the universe into additional episodes, each centered on a different proverb-law, gradually revealing how this AI society came to replace humanity.
