Inspiration
The prompt and website for the hackathon inspired me to create something that could help users link memories together. Also, even though this app is geared towards a general audience, I think it could help those struggling with memory loss a lot. Sometimes all we need is a certain smell, a picture, or a description to help jump start our memories.
What it does
Memory Lane is an autonomous life-story weaver that transforms digital chaos into a cohesive chain of memories. It aggregates fragmented data from a user's connected services (photos, email, calendars/events, etc.) and uses metadata like location to weave them into a cohesive timeline.
How we built it
I used Figma primarily for the building of the application and prototype. Before anything was actually created, I sketched some ideas into my notebook, used Notability to brainstorm, and Google Gemini to help with the creation of the persona.
Challenges we ran into
I started my design at 7pm Saturday...with only 12 hours to spare, I was rushed into trying to make a prototype that could be as close to how I imagined as possible. I am definitely going to be revisiting this project so that I can add what I wanted to (which is code and the inclusion of generative AI to help 'piece' together memories).
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am proud of how it looks and feels after a quick turn around. I am also proud of the idea, I hope that it can actually help individuals.
What we learned
I learned that I need to not worry so much about design and more so about the usage of the product. This is my first design-a-thon, so I came in nervous and not knowing what to expect. Now, I feel a little more confident moving forward!
What's next for Memory Lane
After the competition I hope to go back to this project and add code to it--I want people to be able to actually use it for themselves, to help improve memory, to hopefully inspire those that do use it. Reflecting on memories and moments is such a vital part of the human experience and I believe it helps us grow into ourselves a little more each time we go down memory lane!
