Inspiration
We often capture memories in fragments — a voice note, a quick journal, a photo — but rarely do they come together as a complete story. We were inspired by the idea of preserving someone’s life experiences in a meaningful and timeless way, using the power of AI to tell that story when the person is no longer around. "Memory Jar" was born from that simple but powerful question: What if your memories could write your autobiography, even if you're not there to tell it?
What it does
Memory Jar is an AI-powered memory collector and storyteller. Users can submit short text or voice entries to record memories. If a user becomes inactive for one year, the system automatically generates a personalized digital memoir from their entries — a beautiful book that tells the story of their life.
While this is currently just a demo, the idea is to create a legacy tool that turns forgotten memories into something everlasting.
How we built it
We created a front-end prototype using:
- Vite + TypeScript for fast development and modularity
- Tailwind CSS for responsive and clean UI
- Hosted on Netlify for quick deployment and sharing
The website simulates how users would interact with the Memory Jar, giving a preview of the storytelling experience. Placeholder logic and mock data represent where AI services like GPT, Whisper, and DALL·E would be integrated in a future full version.
Challenges we ran into
- Defining the emotional tone of the experience for something so personal
- Designing for a future feature set while only having a demo scope
- Balancing ambition with time constraints during the hackathon
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Delivered a working concept and user interface to clearly communicate the idea
- Created a professional pitch for a meaningful and emotionally-driven AI product
- Developed a memorable brand identity (name, logo, UI, and storytelling flow)
What we learned
- Even a demo can tell a powerful story when the concept is deeply relatable
- Simulating AI workflows helps clarify product vision and user experience
- Storytelling is not just the end result — it's in how the product feels
