Inspiration
My older brother had a serious accident one day and since that day he has had after-effects that affect his memory. Like him, our elders need to be helped to remember vital moments of daily life. Simple gestures such as hydrating regularly or not forgetting to take medication are not necessarily obvious anymore. The skill Memory helper allows you to plan your own reminders or have someone else do it for you.
What it does
The skill allows to choose from the screen of an Echo show a list of simple tasks of daily life. The user can define reminders by choosing the date and time and the type of reminder he wants, such as taking his medicine. The user can also choose to receive an email to add the reminder to his calendar. The user can modify a reminder if he made a mistake. The objective is to facilitate the life of the user and the caregivers to make their daily life easier.
How we built it
The programming language used is NodeJS. I used AWS Lambda and sendgrid for email sending and the Reminder API.
Challenges we ran into
No particular difficulties
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Proud to have launched this project that will help my loved ones and people who are aging to make their daily life easier. Memory problems will be a thing of the past.
What we learned
Thanks to this challenge I was finally able to realize a skill that is close to my heart. I can't wait to develop it and add new features.
What's next for Memory helper
I would like to add video and video calls for more interactivity and for loved ones to be closer than ever.
