Inspiration

I wanted to build something I could proudly share something that anyone could understand and enjoy playing, from kids to adults

What it does

The Memory Card Game is an interactive web-based game where the player flips over emoji cards two at a time to find matching pairs

How we built it

HTML: Defined the layout — title, stats (moves, time, pairs), difficulty buttons, and game grid.

CSS: Styled everything with a clean and colorful UI. Used 3D effects to flip cards and modals to show win messages.

JavaScript: Added logic to: Shuffle the cards Handle flip interactions Track matched pairs Update stats and show a victory modal

Challenges we ran into

Card flipping logic: Ensuring only two cards are flipped at a time and locking user interaction during animations

. Victory condition: Making sure the game detects when all pairs are matched and shows the win screen accurately.

Timer control: Ensuring the timer starts at the right moment and stops when the game ends.

Dynamic layout: Adapting the grid size and logic based on difficulty level without repeating code.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully implemented responsive design so the game works well on desktop and mobile.
Added multiple difficulty levels (Easy, Medium, Hard), making the game more dynamic and replayable.
Created a clean, modern user interface with emoji cards and smooth flip animations.
Integrated a win popup that shows final stats, creating a satisfying game-ending experience.

What we learned

We gained hands-on experience creating and dynamically updating HTML elements using JavaScript

We learned how to create smooth card-flip effects and visually appealing UI elements.

We developed logic to handle matching, flipping, timing, and tracking moves/pairs in a clean and efficient way.

We learned to manage user input through clicks, and prevent unwanted behavior with condition checks (like disabling multiple flips).

Managing game state (flipped cards, matched pairs, timer, etc.) taught us how to organize and update variables in real-time.
