Inspiration
We live in a fast-paced digital world where memories often get lost in endless photo galleries or cloud folders. Yet, there’s something timeless about the analog charm of cassette tapes that they carry nostalgia, warmth, and a sense of permanence. The inspiration behind Memory Cassette came from the idea of giving memories a retro twist: instead of letting them fade into obscurity, why not preserve them as beautifully designed digital cassette tapes? We wanted to capture that feeling of rewinding a tape and reliving moments, but in a modern, playful format that makes storing and sharing memories more emotional, personal, and fun.
What it does
1.Lets users store their favorite memories as digital cassette tapes. 2.Each cassette represents a memory with a title, description, or even a photo/song. 3.Provides a retro-styled UI where you can “play,” “pause,” and “rewind” through your captured moments. 4.Create a constellation based on moods 5.Adds an aesthetic, nostalgic feel to something as simple as memory keeping.
How we built it
1.Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript. 2.Designed cassette-inspired components with custom CSS styling. 3.JavaScript powers the interactivity, from adding memories to navigating through them like a tape.
Challenges we ran into
1.Capturing the retro feel without overcomplicating the design. 2.Balancing aesthetics with functionality so that the app was not just beautiful, but usable. 3.Working with only HTML, CSS, and JS meant we had to be creative with animations and layouts that might have been simpler in React or other libraries.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
1.Successfully recreating the nostalgic vibe of cassette tapes in a digital format. 2.Building a fully functional, aesthetic project with just the basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 3.Keeping the app simple, yet unique enough to stand out in a hackathon setting. 4.Creating something that feels emotional and personal to users.
What's next for Memory Cassette
1.Add the ability to attach audio snippets or voice notes to memories. 2.Let users customize cassette skins (colors, stickers, retro styles). 3.Enable sharing of memory cassettes with friends and family. 4.Explore storing data in local storage or a small backend to persist memories across sessions. 5.Improve the mood constellation 6.Publish it as an app
