Inspiration
Designing a tombstone for a loved one is one of the most emotionally difficult tasks a person can face. It’s a deeply personal experience, yet the process is often expensive, time-consuming, and limited by rigid catalog options. We wanted to change that. MemorialAI was inspired by the idea that everyone deserves a beautiful and personalized farewell – made easier through the use of empathetic AI and thoughtful design tools.
What it does
MemorialAI is an AI-powered web application that allows users to create personalized memorials and tombstones with ease, creativity, and care. Through a simple chat interface, users can describe the kind of gravestone they envision — from material and shape to inscriptions and symbols. The AI interprets these preferences and generates: A realistic 2D visual representation of the tombstone (using image generation) A summary of design details for review or editing An option to download the final project or share it with a stonemason This makes it possible for anyone, regardless of artistic or technical skill, to design a meaningful and dignified memorial in minutes.
How we built it
MemorialAI combines: OpenAI's GPT-4 to interpret user input and suggest tombstone design elements DALL·E (via OpenAI API) to generate 2D visual previews based on AI-written prompts A simple frontend using HTML, Tailwind CSS, and JavaScript to keep the interface clean and calming Bolt.new
What's next for MemorialAI
Add multi-language support to serve users globally (starting with Polish, English, and Spanish) Introduce 3D model previews using WebGL or Three.js for more immersive visualization Allow users to upload photos and include real portraits in the design Partner with funeral homes and stone artisans to offer direct order fulfillment Expand design options for urns, plaques, and digital memorials (including QR-linked tributes) MemorialAI aims to become a compassionate companion in the grieving process — empowering people to create lasting, beautiful tributes on their own terms.
