Inspiration

Keeping healthy habits is a universal challenge, one that has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Productivity apps are a way for people to keep track of focus on tasks and maintain habits. Now more than ever, it is important to ensure that you’re mentally and physically healthy. We were inspired by productivity apps that used fun ways for users to interact with the interface. For instance, an app where a user grows a tree by remaining on the app.

What it does

Our website allows the user to adopt pets and take care of them through maintaining habits. The user can set what habits they would like to maintain, and the website’s calendar feature provides a way for the user to sustain habits across longer periods of time. By keeping on top of these habits, the user keeps their pets happy and healthy!

How we built it

We built the website using the text editor Atom.io. From there, we coded it in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. We also used other applications such as JQuery and local storage for our pet customization avatar.

Challenges we ran into

We had trouble dealing with local storage and its properties.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

We’re proud of persisting through challenges with local storage as well as creating cute and customizable pets.

What we learned

Throughout the development process, we learned different formatting aspects of HTML and CSS. We also learned how to implement local storage to maintain the website state across page reloads.

What's next for Memopet

In the future, we hope to add more features to Memopet that would increase user interaction to allow for more engagement on the website, like adding accessories to the pets.
