Memikat

Inspiration

“Memikat” was inspired by the small, quiet moments of falling in love — the type of feeling that doesn’t explode loudly, but slowly pulls two people closer like a gentle magnet. The story reflects the sweetness of Indonesian romance: simple, soft, and honest. We wanted to capture that warmth through a dreamy animated world where emotion subtly shapes the environment — floating particles, soft light, and magical realism that visualizes the feeling of being “memikat,” or enchanted.

What it does

“Memikat” is an animated music video that follows a shy young man who develops feelings for a girl he sees every day. As he tries to gather the courage to speak to her, the world around him reacts to his emotions with soft magical elements — glowing particles, slow-motion moments, and warm lighting. The video visualizes the entire emotional journey of young love: hesitation, admiration, nervousness, small courage, and finally, connection.

How we built it

We used a hybrid workflow combining multiple AI tools:

Dreamina for generating stylized character art, key scenes, and aesthetic world-building.

Kling / Seedance / Hailuo for text-to-video and image-to-video sequences, especially expressive character movement and environmental transitions.

Manual editing to stitch scenes into a smooth storytelling arc, sync to music timing, and maintain a consistent tone.

Color grading to achieve a soft romantic palette reminiscent of dreamy indie animations.

Sound design to enhance atmosphere: rain, footsteps, wind, soft ambient textures.

Throughout the build, we focused on maintaining consistent characters, lighting, and visual style across all shots.

Challenges we ran into

Maintaining consistent character faces across multiple AI tools Required back-and-forth adjustments, prompt tuning, and manual selection of the best matching outputs.

Achieving natural movement in image-to-video Some tools created stiff or exaggerated animation, so we had to balance realism with stylized expression.

Syncing emotional beats with the song Romantic timing is extremely sensitive; even small mismatches affect the mood, so we refined transitions to match rhythm and vocal phrasing.

Keeping the magical realism subtle We wanted magic — but not too fantasy. Finding the right level took experimentation.

AI animation becomes much stronger when paired with real storytelling fundamentals: pacing, emotion, rhythm, and symbolism.

Consistency across AI tools requires patience, iteration, and clear visual direction.

Soft, emotional narratives work beautifully with minimalistic visual cues when executed with intention.

Music videos benefit massively from audio-visual synchronization, and AI tools are becoming surprisingly capable when guided carefully.

What's next for Memikat

Expanding the characters into a short animated series based on the same romantic universe.

Releasing alternate “mood edits” (rainy version, night version, sunset version).

Creating a behind-the-scenes breakdown of the AI workflow for other creators.

Possibly developing a second music video telling the girl’s perspective — how she saw him first.
