I love memes. Being a college student, I have seen how everyone (including professors) are using memes to communicate. Simple observation tells you they are the most dominant media on social media (from fb to twitter to reddit, you'll find memes everywhere). Memes are the new powerful language of internet. The latest research reveals that memes are “the future of communication” that helps us understand “the state of the world” and the thoughts and feelings of people. These are most dominant digital media with 18-34 demographics with over 80% of the population regularly interacting through memes on social media. From my personal experience, every university in the United States has its own meme group on Facebook/Reddit/Instagram and these are the most engaging student communities online.
According to Google Trends, memes are 2x more popular than GIFs but there exists no technology focused on innovating with this media. Memeois is building the world’s first intelligent meme database and provides a series of tools to aid and advance the growth of memes in online communication.
What it does
Memeois offers a two part solution for both our end users (18-34 demographics that loves to interact with memes) and our business customers (who focus on this demographics as their target audience):
We provide easy tools to interact with memes. This includes already LIVE features like personalized instagram-like feed, meme keyboard, AI meme searches including by voice and integrate meme generation tools available on iOS and android apps available in their respective app marketplaces. And, we are constantly researching and launching for new platforms including AI meme generator, Augmented Reality experience, Blockchain based gamified messaging, chatbots and more. This creates a familiar, easy to use integrated platform for all things memes designed to act as a compliment to current communication services.
We provide solutions for marketing agencies as well as developer level support for intelligent meme integration. Memes help enhance organic lead generation as the most interacted posts on social media and they also increase user engagement. First, we offer intelligent meme recommendation tools based on product information and content to be shared. This saves time and offers guaranteed result as we know what memes work. Second, we provide API level access to developers, offering the only meme search APIs available on the internet. This can be integrated in entertainment products from using memes as reward badges to building meme based stories. [Our monetization scheme]
How I built it
Development Stack:

What I learned
Memes are the new powerful language of internet. They are “the future of communication” that helps us understand “the state of the world” and the thoughts and feelings of people. From my personal experience, every college in the United States has an online meme group which are the most engaging student communities. Memes are used to express feelings, to relax and have fun, to learn and more.
However, it’s much difficult to FIND, CREATE and SHARE them with no focused innovation:
- No search engine that can provide intelligent results for memes you’re looking for.
- No way way to create memes without spending too much time.
- Difficult to share and interact with memes as you have to work around the constrains of traditional social media which are not tailored for memes.
Today, memes are distributed you have to hop between 100s of distributed Facebook groups, subreddits etc. and scroll content in each segment to find relevant memes. In fact, other content-types like videos and text-only posts are favored over memes by these services. With Memeois, we solve this “gap” by building a mission driven platform just for memes.
My solution is aimed to ease the time & effort required to interact with memes where Memeois is an omnipresent provider. The only current solutions are meme-generator apps that make it easier to create memes compared to traditional image editors but still require separate setup and additional work (they’re mostly freemium/paid vs. Memeois offering free integrated solution). Current technology hasn’t been able to develop any solution as: No one has cared about memes until now, dismissing them as a silly thing on the internet. Image recognition has advanced but there hasn’t been a way to build intelligent patterns for meme analysis until now (patent pending innovation #1).
What's next for Memeois
Blockchain + Memes: Instead of using memes as crypto collectibles, memes can be used as a token of exchange backed by blockchain. A permanent immutable record of sharing memes; another fun way to bring blockchain to masses like CryptoKitties.
Augmented Reality + Memes: Allowing to create memes in the real world & add memes to real-world objects to create & share videos or build experiences like street-art that can be "virtually" visited by other people coming to that location.
AI + Memes: Using Artificial Intelligence (leveraging existing millions of memes) to create new ones from just a few keywords or string of text. So, whatever you want to express, you can express easily through memes.
