Inspiration

We were inspired by the party game - what do you meme? Movies and memes are the most entertaining forms of art, so we combined them together to create the ultimate memer party game.

What it does

MemeDat is a discord bot wherein you can invite your friends and battle them in a meme making party game. The meme templates are chosen from popular movies. Each player has to caption the meme and then the bot opens up a poll to count in votes. The caption with most votes wins and that’s how it works!

How we built it

We have used discord py to build most of the bot functionalities and maintain user session and heroku to host our bot.

Challenges we ran into

One of the major challenges we ran into was maintaining user session and keeping track of votes. The votes are counted as the number of reactions, but since few functions were asynchronous, it resulted in a big mess of code. But eventually, we were able to figure it out.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a fun and entertaining discord bot within the stipulated time despite facing so many challenges.

What we learned

We learnt to work with discord library and hosting bot.

What's next for memedat

We would like to add more meme templates and eventually launch memedat on multiple platforms. We would also like to work on managing user sessions more elegantly.
