Inspiration

MemeCraftMC was inspired by the creativity and humor of Reddit communities. I wanted to build a fun, interactive app that allows users to create, customize, and share memes directly inside Reddit posts, making community engagement more playful and expressive.

What it does

MemeCraftMC lets users:

Choose from starter meme templates or upload their own images

-Add custom text to images with live preview

-Save creations in a Reddit-style gallery

-Share memes instantly within Reddit posts

-It’s designed to be fun, intuitive, and community-driven.

How we built it

-Frontend: React, TailwindCSS for Reddit-style UI

-Backend: Devvit Web framework (server stub for optional persistence)

-Data: Starter meme templates with prompts, live preview using React state

-Structure: src/client/ for UI, src/server/ for API/server logic, src/shared/ for shared types

Challenges we ran into

-Mimicking Reddit’s native look and feel while keeping the app responsive

-Preloading starter templates and prompts efficiently

-Handling live preview of user-uploaded images alongside text

-Ensuring the app works smoothly inside a Reddit post iframe

Accomplishments that we're proud of

-Fully functional Meme Editor with live preview

-Reddit-native UI/UX that looks polished and familiar

-Gallery view to showcase user-generated memes instantly

-Smooth template selection and meme saving experience

What I learned

-How to leverage Devvit Web for interactive Reddit posts

-Implementing Reddit-style UI with React and TailwindCSS

-Structuring a project with client, server, and shared modules

-Managing user-generated content efficiently in React

What's next for MemeCraftMC

-Add persistent storage so users’ memes stay saved across sessions

-Integrate upvote/downvote and comments for gallery memes

-Expand the template library and allow community-contributed templates

-Enhance sharing features directly to Reddit communities
