Inspiration
I was inspired by a phrase I often hear these days: "Vibe coding!"—and how people tend to react strongly to it, either positively or negatively. That made me wonder: what would it actually look like to vibe code something that interacts with a person's vibe?
What it does
The app uses your computer’s camera to read your aura (or vibe) and generates a caption based on that reading. Users can choose to turn this caption on or off, and even overlay it on their image. Additionally, they can add their own custom caption, along with emojis and filters to enhance the final output.
How we built it
I built the MVP using Bolt, focusing on creating a functional prototype to showcase the core concept.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was on the first page, where a beaker animation shows the user mixing their primary and secondary ingredients in real time. The layout still needs refinement, and the animation sequence could be smoother for a better user experience. Fine-tuning this part is a key next step.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m genuinely proud that I was able to conceptualize and bring this idea to life as a working MVP (even if it uses mock data). It closely reflects the intended user journey and experience. I had a lot of fun implementing and testing new functions—and seeing them work made me feel giddy. I imagine users will have just as much fun using the Meme Potion Studio app.
What we learned
I learned how crucial it is to design with the user in mind at every step. Users need to clearly understand what’s happening on each page and always have a way to return to the home screen if they feel lost. To support this, I added a clickable logo in the top-left corner of every page and a back button in the bottom-left. A seamless user flow is essential to ensure people enjoy the app—if they feel confused or stuck, it can kill the vibe (pun intended) and turn them off from the experience.
What's next for Meme Potion Studio
Next up, I want to polish the animations and layout—especially the mixing page—to make everything feel smoother and more fun. I’m also planning to move past mock data by using real camera input and maybe even some AI to read your actual vibe. I’d love to add more ways for users to customize their meme potions with filters (+kawaii filter), emojis, and captions, and make it easier to share creations on social media. Down the line, I’m thinking about a mobile version and maybe even turning it into a little game to keep it playful and engaging. Overall, I’m excited to keep building something that’s creative, fun, and all about good vibes.
