Inspiration

We wanted to create something fun, interesting, and accessible that gives people a quick laugh while also showcasing the power of the Magic Hour API. The idea was to turn everyday social media profiles into something playful and shareable, making AI feel more creative, personal, and easy for anyone to use.

What it does

Our website lets users enter an Instagram, X, or Facebook handle to instantly generate a personalized meme using AI in under 20 seconds. Users can customize the output by adding their own preferences, or optionally let the AI decide for them. A voice to text feature is also available to make the experience more accessible and hands free. The generated meme can be tweaked and refined, and users can provide feedback to improve results. It can also be easily shared across social platforms, and the app includes a community feature where users can post, explore, and enjoy memes created by others.

How we built it

We started by researching the Magic Hour API and understanding its capabilities. From there, we defined the UI and UX requirements to ensure the website was easy to use, accessible, and fast. We then used Claude to help bring our vision to life, iteratively refining and updating our requirements along the way to polish the final product and improve the overall experience.

Challenges we ran into

We initially wanted the AI to analyze posts and generate highly personalized memes, but we realized that we would need permission from Meta, as they do not allow access to posts and only provides limited data like bios and profile pictures. To work around this limitation, we added a custom input feature that allows users to provide additional context about the social media handle, helping the AI generate more personalized and relevant memes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that the product is fully functional, looks good, and is easy to use. It is fast, accessible, and most importantly, fun, giving users a quick laugh with the help of AI while making it easy to create and share memes.

What we learned

We learned how to work with the Magic Hour API and integrate it into a full product experience. We also gained experience in designing simple and accessible UI and UX, and how to iterate quickly by refining our requirements based on feedback. Along the way, we learned how to balance creativity with technical limitations, especially when working with external APIs and data restrictions.

What's next for Meme AI

Our next step is to explore getting permission from Meta so we can access more data and make the memes even more personalized and fun. This would allow us to create richer and more accurate outputs based on user activity, taking the experience to the next level.
