What is the problem your solution addresses?

Taking photos is an important part of how we interact with the world, allowing us to look back on, and in a way, relive, the moments that make up our lives. However, our phone’s built-in photo albums can often clutter very easily, making it difficult to quickly find the photos we want to review, share, or upload. Additionally, it can be quite time-consuming to sift through hundreds of photos at once just to reach a specific memory, and the default date categorization that most photo apps use can make it difficult to pinpoint specific photos if they were not recently taken.

Why did you pick this solution, and how does it address the problem?

Our app, MeMap, is centered around the idea that memories are attached to the places they are made, creating an interface where users organize their photographs not by time, but by place. Rather than trying to remember the exact year and month a photo was taken, users can have an interactive map that auto-populates with photos based on the photo metadata containing the location of capture (with given permissions). This will not only make it easier to find the exact moments they are looking for but also provide a beautiful visual for them to see the places they have been in an intuitive layout. We chose this solution because we believe that having a map would allow people to have easy organization of their memories, as it is an exciting method for people to see the journeys they have taken throughout their lives and all the possibilities left to explore.
